Baklava: If you are ever wondering how an authentic Middle Eastern Baklava tastes like, you gotta try this! Aleppo is very famous for its unique pistachio that is smaller in size, much greener in color and most importantly one of the most flavorful in the world. This Baklava is made with this prized pistachio.
Karabij: A sweet specialty hailing from Aleppo, karabij halab is a semolina flour cookie filled with a crunchy nut mixture and flavored with rose and orange blossom water. This sweet treat is typically made with semolina flour dough, topped with a mixture of ground pistachios or walnuts, sugar, ghee, cinnamon, and fragrant water, pinched closed, and then baked until nicely colored.
Maamoul: Maamoul is usually the general term of this type of cookie. It is filled with either Pistachios and Walnuts.
They are are filled with Pistachio and powdered with confectioner sugar after baking. They are served in homes through out the year and most famous during holidays.
*Sugar is included in a bag to be applied before consumption to preserve the freshness of the maamoul.
We import them from Aleppo, Syria from a shop called Mahrouseh which is one of the oldest and most reputable pastry shops in Aleppo that thankfully survived the war. We import on a weekly basis via air, so they are always fresh. It is truly a pleasure for me to be able to share this delicacy with all of you!
